“The man, who goes afoot, prepared to camp anywhere and in any weather, is the most independent fellow on earth” – Horace Kephart
What is bushcraft/ Survival skills?
Bushcraft, Woodcraft, Wilderness skills, or Survival skills is the ability of using resources found in nature to survive in it and thrive. Bushcraft is the set of skills we obtain that allow us to survive in nature. These skills include but are not limited to: firecraft, navigation, shelter building, trapping, tracking, foraging and the use of both primitive and contemporary tools.
Who is it for?
Bushcraft is a fun and rewarding activity for everyone. As Naomi Walmsley and Dan Westall put it: “All children (and adults) should be able to light a fire (safely) by the age of ten, know at least 10 different uses for a stick and a stone, be able to recognise at least five of the plants and trees see daily, and be able to identify at least 10 different birds visiting their back garden”.
During our Quality Days Out, we provide the most appropriate activities based on the group age.
Bushcraft activites are suitable for:
- Adults who want to learn something new and spend a day out in nature.
- Families that want to teach their children and themselves something new and spend a day out in nature (For a better experience, we reccomend this for children over the age of 5).
Why practice bushcraft?
Living in the era of convenience someone might wonder why practice bushcraft, leaving behind home comforts to pursuit an activity in the woods. We can think of multiple ways an individual can benefit through such an activity. Practicing bushcraft allows you to:
- Spend time outdoors
- Learn lifesaving skills
- Get you out of your comfort zone
- Reconnect with nature
- Create self-reliance and independence from the contemporary urban life
- Slow down from the busy everday rythums
- Explore and understand naural patterns around you
- Get your hands on different tools
